Mary Stenlund of Woodland, Washington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Dec 20, 2023.
Mary was born on September 23, 1942 to Ruby and William Surenok near Cincinnati, Ohio. Mary grew up with her beloved siblings, John, Jane and Wayne. As a teen, Mary moved with her family to La Mesa, California. She graduated from Helix High School in 1960. At a church dance, Mary met and fell in love with Wayne Stenlund, a handsome sailor. They married in October of 1963.
Mary and Wayne had 4 children, Larry (who she is now with in heaven), Gary, Karen, and JoAnn. In 1978, they moved from Chula Vista, California to Vancouver, Washington. Mary was actively involved with serving in her church as a teacher and music leader. She enjoyed working in many positions for the Vancouver School District. Her favorite, and the one from which she retired, was working with the School Nurses as a Health Clerk.
Mary and Wayne moved to Woodland, Washington in 1990 where she was involved with church, the Woodland Historical Society, and spending time with her 9 grandchildren. This past October, Mary and Wayne celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary surrounded by their family.
Mary loved music, reading, and word searches. She was a quiet soul with a great sense of humor, a bit of sarcasm, and a lot of white. She was full of love and had the ability to lift everyone around her. She had an impact on so many lives and will be greatly missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, John, her first son, Larry Wayne, and first grandchild, Ian. She is survived by her husband Wayne, her children Gary, Karen, and JoAnn, her 9 grandchildren.
