Lynetta Rose Rival

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Lynetta Rival. After bravely fighting ovarian
cancer Lynetta is finally at rest and pain free. She was reunited with her creator and beloved
parents on November 7th, 2023. Lynetta was a pastor and poet who dedicated her life to her
community and the care of her family. She was born to Lester and Marlene Askland on
December 26th, 1957 in Seattle, Washington. She studied theology at Portland Bible College. In
1983 she taught English in Asuncion, Paraguay for several years. She was an ordained minister
who joyfully followed her calling. She found deep comfort and connection to God through nature
and her beloved pets. She was a woman who couldn’t walk by flowers without taking a photo.
Lynetta is preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her husband Mario
Rival, her two children Jason Rival and Letizia Acosta, her sisters Twila and Lola and brother
Joel Askland, and her grandchildren Ximena, Sol, and Miro.
